Senator Imee Marcos is determined to continue investigating the alleged bribery and misrepresentation surrounding the People’s Initiative to amend the Constitution. The Senate Committee on Electoral Reforms and People’s Participation has scheduled its second hearing for Friday, February 2, in Davao City.
Previously, several House leaders have strongly recommended that the Senate conclude its investigation and proceed with the passing of Resolution No. 6, a joint resolution aimed at amending specific economic provisions of the Charter. However, Marcos thinks it is crucial to persist with the probe to ultimately quash the movement, despite the Senate’s criticism of its flaws and unconstitutional nature.
The sister of the president is urging the Commission on Elections, or Comelec, to invalidate and dispose of all signature forms due to concerns about their potential misuse in the future.
“Habang nakatambak yan, at habang nandyan sa Comelec, eh gagamitin at gagamitin yan. Anlayo pa kaya ng 2028?” – Marcos said
“Malay natin kung sino yung mga ambisyoso dyan na gagamit ng ganyan. They stopped accepting it. But other than that, they threw it away, they threw all the forms away.” – Marcos added
It was reported that despite engaging in a heated exchange with House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the presidential sister has stated that she does not harbor any ill feelings towards her cousin.
“There’s no anger there. It’s not personal. There’s no such thing. Wala namang kinalaman sa uh, administration.” – Sen. Marcos
Senator Sonny Angara will lead a discussion in the subcommittee and has stated that the focus will be on the resolution’s contents. He has assured that no political amendments will be discussed.
